1. What is the best time to visit Bukit Lawang for orangutan trekking?
Bukit Lawang can be visited throughout the year. The rainforest has a tropical climate, so rain can occur at any time. Our guides will help you choose the best trekking experience based on the weather and trail conditions.
2. Will I definitely see orangutans during the trek?
Orangutans are wild animals, so sightings can never be guaranteed. However, Bukit Lawang offers excellent opportunities to observe Sumatran orangutans in their natural rainforest habitat.
3. How long does an orangutan trek take?
We offer different trekking options depending on your time and fitness level, from day trips to multi-day jungle adventures. A typical one-day trek can take around 6–7 hours including time to explore the rainforest and enjoy a river rafting return
4. What should I bring for the jungle trek?
We recommend comfortable trekking shoes, lightweight clothing, long trousers and socks, rain protection, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, a small backpack, and personal medication.
5. Is the trekking suitable for beginners?
Yes. We have trekking options for different fitness levels. However, jungle trails can be steep, muddy, and slippery in some areas. Please let us know your fitness level so we can recommend the most suitable trek for you.
6. How do I get to Bukit Lawang?
Bukit Lawang is located in North Sumatra and is accessible from Medan and Kualanamu International Airport. We can help arrange transportation to and from Bukit Lawang as part of your travel plan.
7. Is the orangutan trekking ethical and responsible?
We believe wildlife should be observed with respect. During the trek, guests should never feed or touch orangutans, maintain a safe distance, follow the guide’s instructions, and take all rubbish back out of the forest.
